India Traditional Visa vs. India Electronic Visa (e-Visa)

It is often used for longer stays, multiple entries, or special purposes such as work, journalism, or long-term business assignments. The application process usually requires more documents.

An India e-Visa is an online application system that allows eligible travelers to apply digitally without visiting a consulate. Once approved, the visa is sent electronically and must be printed and presented upon arrival. It is typically used for short-term tourism, business meetings, or medical visits and offers faster processing and greater convenience.
Validity of an India Traditional Visa vs. India Electronic Visa (e-Visa)

A traditional tourist visa is often issued for 5 years or 10 years for U.S. citizens, and it usually allows multiple entries. However, each stay is typically limited to a maximum number of days per visit (commonly up to 180 days per visit for tourism, depending on the visa conditions).

An India e-Visa is usually shorter in validity and comes in different options:

30-day e-Tourist visa (double entry, short-term visits)

1-year e-Tourist visa (multiple entry within the validity period)

5-year e-Tourist visa (multiple entry, but each stay is limited, often up to 180 days per visit)
